CHAOTIC SITUATION– The scheduled appearance by the Prime Minister was meant to boost key worker morale at Tesco but a case of mistaken identity has led to widespread embarrassment for the company. Several photos of the giant bag of potatoes were taken whilst it was given a full tour of the Tesco facilities by David Lewis, the outgoing CEO of Tesco (pictured above). The potatoes were believed at the time to be Boris Johnston. At one point David Lewis and the would-be Boris Johnson even shared a cigar together during a private meeting where the post-Brexit economy was discussed. Afterwards, a quick photo was taken outside the supermarket with Tesco staff.
It was only when a spokesman for the prime minister contacted Tesco to apologise for him being unable to attend the public appearance that anyone realised a mistake might have been made. By this time the photos were already all over the company website and the PR disaster unfolded. Tesco has since apologised for the accident and is attempting to find the real identity of the impersonator, who quickly left the area after the above photo.
